Christian Science came to me at a time when I needed to know of God's goodness, to know that He was real and near. I hope that my life may prove how grateful I am that this knowledge did come to me.

A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was sent to me by a sister and a mutual friend. The chapter on Prayer impressed me very much as showing the only way in which one could honestly pray. It stripped praying of all sham and pretense, and demanded honesty and sincerity in seeking God's presence and help, and it made God real to me.

I never lost sight of that first glimpse, but in the maze of difficulties and opposition that seemed to surround me then, I found little uninterrupted time in which to read and study. This Science was teaching me, though, to turn to God in moments of keen stress, and to trust Him rather than to seek a doctor's aid and material methods.
