With a heart full of love, joy, and gratitude for the...
With a heart full of love, joy, and gratitude for the multitude of blessings received through the study and application of Christian Science, I desire to tell of an almost instantaneous healing of the bite of a very poisonous snake—a cotton mouth.
I was one of a party of fishermen in southeastern Oklahoma when this took place. My first thought was to notify other members of the party of the incident, but it occurred to me that by doing so I would break up the fishing party, so I hesitated. The pain was fast spreading up and down my limbs and fear was creeping into my consciouness, when a vision of Paul shaking the viper from his hand and feeling no harm came to me. I immediately began to work as we are taught in Christian Science; and looking away from the material to the spiritual, I said, "Father, if You could do that then, You can heal this now." Soon a young man came along in a boat, and I stepped in and started fishing. I fished all the afternoon, and did not think any more of the bite until we arrived at the spot where the incident occurred. We spent the night at the camp and did not return home until the next afternoon, and then I examined the bite for the first time. Error tried to convince me that poison was still in the bite, and the keen pains experienced the day before returned. It then occurred to me to be grateful for the healing I had experienced the day before; and as I voiced my gratitude, the pain ceased altogether, and in a short time only the scars remained.
A member of my household who had just celebrated her ninety-first birthday and who had been opposed to what she thought Christian Science to be, was very much impressed by this healing; and shortly afterward when she became ill and the doctor told her he could do nothing for her, she turned to Christian Science and was healed.
