In your report of the sermon delivered on Sunday last, you quote a certain bishop's references to Christian Science.

Christian Science, being based upon the teaching of Christ Jesus, cannot legitimately be deemed either "heretical" or "futile." It was the Master's constant endeavor to turn the thoughts of his followers away from material conditions towards the understanding of spiritual realities. He plainly declared, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth;" and also, on another occasion, he said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

In perfect harmony with his teaching, it is the purpose of Christian Science to lift humanity above materiality into the practical realization of the truth and harmony of spiritual existence.
