Spiritual Hearing

ONE Sunday morning a boy of eight attended a Christian Science church service with his mother, arriving in time to hear the entire organ prelude. The child listened with delighted interest. As the prelude advanced, he said to his mother in a reverent, therefore undisturbing whisper, "The music sounds like Jesus walking on the water."

To hear, even feebly or indirectly, the voice of omnipotence telling of Mind's allness, and of Mind's control over matter, is a step toward realizing and utilizing that control. Sacred music is potentially an agent for raising thought above the arena of physical sense into the state where higher desires are entertained.

The commonplace occurrences of everyday living offer opportunities in which one may listen for the truth with rich results, receiving more than the physical sense of hearing reports. The sweet sounds of nature, expressed so winningly and lavishly, have brought delight, inspiration, and comfort to many ever since "the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy."
