I began the study of Christian Science while attending...
I began the study of Christian Science while attending high school, and received some benefit from its teachings at that time. However, it was about three years before I became sufficiently interested to give up my work in an orthodox church and turn more completely to Christian Science. I was then attending a university, faced with the problem of earning my own way. Through the utilization of divine resourcefulness, as taught in Christian Science, I was able to prove the availability of needed resources.
Having had a considerable background of musical and dramatic training, I decided to give private lessons along these lines. In a short time every available hour was utilized. This was brought about with a minimum of soliciting, but with much study of the true meaning of supply. Often, when a greater need seemed apparent, I would go to a Christian Science Reading Room and study for hours on the subject of supply.
The problem of finding sufficient strength to do the work required of me was solved through holding to the truth that God, who opened the way for my financial needs to be met, would surely also provide the needed strength. During this time I found that not only my regular needs could be met, but also all that seemed necessary for furthering my progress in Christian Science. Thus I was enabled to purchase all of Mrs. Eddy's writings (with the exception of Science and Health, which I already owned), the complete Concordances, and the Church Manual, as well as to subscribe for the Christian Science periodicals. Also I found I could give of money, time, and service in the Christian Science organization at the university. Neither did I lack at any time for funds to pay a practitioner for Christian Science treatment when it seemed needed.
