Memorial Day has its origin in war. Monuments have been reared to those whose lives were given in some struggle. These monuments, as well as this season, remind us of our unfinished task. They call us to dedicate ourselves to the guarantee that their lives were not given in vain. . . .

The words of Herbert Hoover, when President, are challenging: "We must wage peace as men have waged war."
