Christian Science Mind-Healing
In Matthew's Gospel (4:23) the following verse occurs: "And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." What a summary the verse gives of the work of the Master! Jesus taught the truth—the truth about God and man; he preached, or made known, the nature of God's kingdom; he healed sin and disease of all kinds. And the healings he brought about—every one of them—proved that what he taught and preached was true. He understood the truth of being, made it known to others, and demonstrated it. With his marvelous spiritual understanding and purity of thought the master Metaphysician was able successfully to practice the Science of Mind-healing.
Christian Science shows that Mind-healing, or spiritual healing, is entirely a question of spiritual understanding and Christliness. Obviously, therefore, if one would practice this method of healing the sick and sinning, he must understand God and His creation—reality—and possess a measure of the Christ-spirit. Human will does not enter into the practice at all. And, further, the use of drugs and physical manipulation plays no part in this method of destroying inharmony. As Mrs. Eddy says on page 88 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "Mind-healing, and healing with drugs, are opposite modes of medicine."
Whoever, then, would practice spiritual healing must first of all become acquainted with God and His creation. And this he can do through study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. There he learns that God is infinite Spirit, or Mind, and that God is reflected or expressed by the spiritual ideas which constitute His universe or creation. He learns also that God is infinitely good, and that, consequently, His creation of ideas reflects His perfection. Thus, Christian Science reveals a perfect universe governed and sustained by perfect Mind. No one who acknowledges that God is infinite in intelligence and goodness should have difficulty in understanding that the spiritual universe, which is His creation or manifestation, is the reflection of Himself.
