True Remembrance

The Master said, "The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." Jesus bore witness to that which is spiritually true, to the absolute goodness of God and His creation, and the consequent nothingness of matter and evil. The conclusion must be that the Comforter renews the correct knowledge of that which is spiritually good and true.

As this remembrance of Jesus' words continues to unfold through Christian Science, one becomes aware of the gradual appearing of the true consciousness of man, of which Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 276), "Real consciousness is cognizant only of the things of God." Also, in human experience it has been proved many times that the Comforter does more than what is commonly understood by bringing to remembrance Jesus' words, and by spiritual renewal, for it permanently establishes the truth wherever it is spiritually accepted. Mrs. Eddy states that Christian Science is the Comforter. The proofs of true understanding and demonstration of Christian Science always are those scripturally attributed to "the Spirit of truth."

When the sick and weary one turns to Christian Science for help, he finds there a message of joy and peace, an atmosphere of divine understanding. Evil is not communicated to him there, and there his attention is not riveted on matter and human discord. All the authorized activities of this religion testify to the perfection of God and the harmony of His creation. They reveal that divine Mind is the only creator and power, and exercises the only control there ever can be over the child of God and all his thoughts and actions. Our Leader states in Science and Health (pp. 365, 366), "The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness." "Rightful nutriment" is a very potent expression, since it refers to that which is the real birthright of the children of God, to that which is natural, lawful, and right in the life of man. It is natural and lawful for man in God's image to know only good, and one's actual identity never can by any means be transformed into a witness for evil and matter. Isaiah writes, "Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness."
