In the year 1885 my sister was healed by Christian Science of what the doctors called the last stages of Bright's disease, after they had said they could not cure her nor give her relief. Through her healing I became interested in this Science. I asked for treatment for severe sick headaches, from which I had suffered for twelve years. They vanished with that first treatment, and during the fifty years since that time I have never had a headache nor taken a dose of medicine.
Through the daily study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy I have had excellent health. For several years I was the only Christian Scientist in this northwestern part of Colorado. As there were no telephones or telegraph offices here at that time, and the nearest practitioner was two hundred miles away, I learned to rely completely upon God for spiritual and bodily help for myself and my family.
I was very grateful indeed to have a working understanding of Christian Science when friends and neighbors began to ask for treatment. Healings of spasms, colds, rheumatism, heart trouble, consumption, and other ills took place. My husband, our three older children, and I were the first white family to locate in this region where only the Indians lived. When other families located here there still was no doctor in the county, and I was asked to take care of several women during childbirth. In every case the mother got along beautifully, and the child was fine and strong.
