A Prayer of Faith

Eternal One, forever more with Thee
Would I abide. Open my eyes to see,
Through gathering clouds of sense, serenity.
By Thy unfailing love may I be led
To feed the hungry heart, as I am fed,
With water pure and Thy sustaining bread;
And to my waiting thought, through opening skies,
Unfold the beauty that within Thee lies.
If I but knew I stood upon the Rock,
The storms of mortal mind would beat in vain
To swerve me from my course with sudden shock,
Or overwhelm me with belief of pain.
The very gates of heaven would unlock,
And angels sing to me their glad refrain.
