Life Ever New

[Original article in German]

No one has ever seen Life with the material eyes. And yet we read in I John, "We have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us."

What is life in the Father, the Life that is God? This is necessarily a most momentous question for each of us. What is Life? The beloved disciple said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Here we are told that the knowledge of God is life. How clear now are the words of Paul to his pupil Timothy, "Lay hold on eternal life, where-unto thou art also called"!

God's ideas have eternal, indestructible life. We live because God is Life, and we prove, demonstrate, the eternality of Life in the measure of our understanding of God. In the measure that we know God, we demonstrate Life, which constitutes our being. Here the dreamlike nature of the earthly concept of life is clearly apparent. But "though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."
