"Freely ye have received, freely give." During one of...
"Freely ye have received, freely give." During one of my first conversations with a Christian Scientist, she made clear to me that as soon as we feel sincere gratitude for the good we receive, we desire to share it with someone else. Good is for all; the more we give, the more we have. The testimonies in our various periodicals have been so helpful to me that I desire to give mine, hoping it may prove beneficial to others.
The healing which led us to definite study in Science was that of mastoiditis. During a second attack of the disease we had called a special consultation of doctors, who gave us very little hope for our two-year-old child; in fact, I heard a doctor say that she might die any minute. Although I definitely had said that I could not trust Science in serious cases, I was now ready to surrender everything to God. We dismissed the doctor just when he was going toward the child with his instrument ready to perform the operation. This was more than twenty years ago. She has had normal hearing since this healing, with no return of the slightest symptom.
Another healing was that of carbuncles. Details only lend reality to the unreal; therefore, it is enough to say that we radically relied on Truth and vehemently declared, "God, Spirit, is all" (Science and Health, by Mrs. Eddy, p. 421). Truth alone dismissed the lie. It would be to say that we are grateful for the study we it to say that we are grateful for the study we did during this trial and the truth we learned to apply. However, "Trials are proofs of God's care" (ibid., p. 66), and for these healings we are truly grateful. Nevertheless, physical healing is only one of the blessings we receive through the study of Christian Science. I am grateful for my changed mental attitude toward all mankind.
