In the year 1898 my mother became interested in Christian Science...
In the year 1898 my mother became interested in Christian Science after all material methods of healing, including osteopathic treatments and a surgical operation, had been tried and had failed. Her healing came slowly. However, through her deep study of the Bible, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and the other writings of our revered Leader, she was able to lead a useful and active life for thirty-six years, helping her family and many others.
Just prior to my mother's renunciation of material methods, I, then a tiny child, had been in an infirmary with what was termed laterial curvature of the spine. The verdict pronounced at that time was that the spinal difficulty could be arrested with constant treatment, but that there was no hope of healing. Because of antagonism to Christian Science in the family, Science treatment was not obtained for me at once. But a few years later my condition became acute, and treatment in Christian Science in asked for from a practitioner. In three months' time my spine was entirely straight, and the shoulders even. Because of this healing, at the age of twelve the desire came to dedicate my life to the Cause of Christian Science. From that time forward I made a deep study of this blessed truth, soon joining a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
