Truth Is Not Personal
[Written Especially for Young People]
Truth is always independent of the human voice which proclaims it. Otherwise, any science whatever would be impossible. Yet there is a mortal tendency to confuse absolute Truth, or Principle, with human personality.
Some of Christ Jesus' critics called him gluttonous, a winebibber, and a sinner, because he went about doing good even on the Sabbath, mingling with all classes, ministering to all. But he healed all manner of sickness and infirmity, restored sinners to decent ways of living, and even surmounted death. Regardless of what his enemies thought or said about him, he understood the Principle of being, the Science of Life, and was able to prove his understanding.
A young man who was in difficulty came to a friend for counsel. He professed interest in Christian Science, but admitted that he was not "working at the job." "I know Science is true," he said, "for I have seen it heal. It brought my own mother and a friend back from death. But I seemed to fall away from applying Science to my own problems because people who called themselves Christian Scientists did not live up to what I thought Science ought to be."
