It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I wish to tell of my wonderful healings in Christian Science.
I had been a sufferer all my life, first from one ailment and then another, until I passed my twenty-first birthday, when all my seemed to culminate in a chronic case of Bright's disease, as physicians termed the complaint. Ten years later I was living in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and had just made another unsuccessful attempt to secure life insurance. I was married and had four children all under ten years of ago. The examining said that, in his opinion, unless I at once took a six months' course of treatments in a certain hospital, not live longer than six months, and even if the treatments he did not think I could expect to live over six years.
Up to this time I had tried diet and exercise, and had consulted with numerous doctors, all to no avail, but "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and, as our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I was advised by a friend I had, of course, heard of this religion, but I had heard only ridicule, so that I really turned to it as a last resort, and oh, what a wonderful it has proved to be! The Christian Woman who was the I consulted at this time assured me at my first interview that God is all-loving and He does not afflict His idea, man, with sickness, sin, or death. This was an entirely new viewpoint for me, as I had been raised in an and in some way I had the idea that all my sins were marked up against me. I never could make my mental picture of an God fit in with an all-loving God, and as years went on I grew more resentful of this good I had not entered a church to worship for about fifteen years. One of the first this good woman gave me to learn was "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468), and also Matthew 15:10-19, and the twenty-third Psalm. My healing was slow but sure. After my healing I was examined by several docotors, and in each case I was told that they could not believe that I had ever had Bright's disease.
