During many years in the past I was occasionally afflicted with eye trouble. This would be overcome for a time, and then I would go through the ordeal again. As I was in the business world, holding a clerical position, I had to put on eyeglasses in order to hold my position. Every few years the lenses had to be changed for stronger ones. This went on for about ten years, when the trouble presented itself again, and the test was most severe. I was obliged to give up my position.
At this point my eyes were in such an alarming condition that some of my friends almost forced me to use material methods. I appreciated their kind thoughts, but refused their remedies. I held steadfastly to Christian Science, and then a friend who is also a student of Christian Science came to my assistance, declaring scientific truths and working daily for me over a period of months. Her clear statements of the truth as taught in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, were so enlightening that an awakening came to me with these words: "Joy cometh in the morning."
One morning when I raised my head from the pillow and faced the window, I was able to see across the street and saw clearly and distinctly the lines of weatherboards on the houses. A few days later I picked up a tiny Bible about three and one half by four and one half inches in size, and, to my happy surprise, I could see that tiny print clearly and distinctly and read it without glasses. To say that I am grateful does not express my feelings—my appreciation of and indebtedness to Christian Science, and my gratitude to the dear friend who stood by me so faithfully.
