It is well to meditate upon our past blessings, and give thanks unto God, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."

Some time ago I was stricken with what the medical profession termed erysipelas and mumps in a severe form. My face was swollen beyond recognition, my eyes were closed for four days, and below each eye a large abscess formed. And last but not least, nearly all of my hair came out, so that I was indeed a sorrowful sight to behold. By some of my friends, the death sentence was passed. As for myself, I did not much care.

When the Christian Science practitioner awakened me from this dream of error by saying emphatically, "We must pull through," it seemed to arouse me and I began to realize my duty to God. I earnestly applied the statements given in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy; and I gained a victory over this sickness which seemed so real, thus proving the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, the one great Physician. My eyes gradually opened. I was terribly disfigured and filled with fear, until I recalled that blessed assurance our dear Leader gives in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 277), "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." All fear vanished and I slowly but surely recovered from the seeming nightmare. My hair came in thicker than ever. In the Scriptures we read, "The very hairs of your head are all numbered," and in God there "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Since my complete recovery, some of my friends say it was a miracle. In order to hold my position I had to undergo a physical examination, which I passed satisfactorily.
