Among the Churches

Vancouver, Washington (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, held two services Sunday, September 15, 1935, for the purpose of dedicating the recently finished church edifice. The usual Sunday Lesson-Sermon was read, accompanied by the announcement of dedication and a short history of the local church.

The church auditorium has been enlarged to about sixty per cent greater seating capacity, a roomy foyer added, and the Sunday school room doubled in size, at a cost of more than four thousand dollars. There is no indebtedness, all improvements having been paid for before the dedication ceremony.

Christian Science services were first held in the homes of students in this city, thirty-one years ago. After a few months, increased attendance made possible the renting of Sohn's Hall for the Sunday services and later for Wednesday evening testimony meetings. The first unit of the present structure at Twenty-sixth and Broadway was occupied in May, 1912. A Sunday school room was added during the winter of 1930—1931, but increased attendance at both Sunday school and church services made necessary the present enlargement, which was begun in the early summer of 1934.
