A short time ago a minister of the gospel radiocast a sermon in which he quoted from the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and then read a number of Bible passages in support of his contention that Christian Science was of the devil. Our critic's lack of knowledge of Christian Science does not enable him to deal impartially with such a profound subject, and so we feel that the radio audience will be interested in hearing from a Christian Scientist a few authentic facts regarding the teachings of this religion.
Paul says, "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned:"
Christian Science, as taught by Mary Baker Eddy, needs no defense, for it is based on the teachings of Christ Jesus. She defines her discovery as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). Students of Christian Science experience health, harmony, happiness, and prosperity in the measure of their obedience to God's law, the law of good. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, on page 162: "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." And she adds, "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind."
