With joy and gratitude I give thanks to Christian Science...
With joy and gratitude I give thanks to Christian Science for a beautiful demonstration brought about through Truth. When our little girl's arm was fractured, child insurance being obligatory according to the law, I bowed to necessity and called a doctor. After examining her, he told me to bring the little one to the hospital for an X-ray examination, and I went that same day. The next day, after getting the X-ray picture, the doctor sent for me and said that because of the seriousness of this case and its complications, the fracture being very near the elbow, with fissures, it would be impossible for him to take care of it himself, for it was too dangerous; he said have to operate in order to set the bone, and take several X-ray pictures to see that it was setting normally. He said that the child would suffer a great deal. The doctor also said: "I know, madam, that you are a Christian Scientist; but do not use Christian Science for the healing of this child's arm. She would be maimed for life. You must take her to the children's hospital right away. She will be there six or eight weeks. I cannot even then assure you of any success." I informed the doctor that I could not take my little girl to the hospital without consulting her father.
On leaving the doctor's office I went to a telephone and asked a Christian Science practitioner for help. She explained to me that parents are free to have their children treated according to their religious beliefs when there is no contagion, reminding me how wonderful Christian Science is, helping us in any situation, and stated that God is All-power and in Him there is neither accident nor breakage. So with a heart full of joy we went home, rejoicing over the beautiful demonstration which would take place. The pain left immediately; there was no bandage and no dressing; the arm was simply supported by a handkerchief used as a sling. Three days later my daughter was playing the piano. Ten days after the accident the doctor came to inquire about the child. I told him immediately that she was at home, and that I had asked for Christian Science help. He was very much astonished and told me that he would assume no responsibility. He assured me that the child would never be able to make certain movements. I answered that I certainly took the whole responsibility, and I thought to myself, God alone is responsible. A little later the doctor gave me a certificate for the child, permitting her to return to school, which she joyfully did. The injured arm was as strong as the other, and she was able to move it any way without feeling uncomfortable.
To write this testimony of healing, I waited for the usual spring visit of the doctor to the school, in order to have a verdict by the same doctor. He came, and when it was my child's turn, he examined her arm thoroughly, making her move it in every possible way. Then he said to her: "Tell your mother that it is splendid; you are completely healed. I never expected anything like it."
