Signs of the Times

[Bishop Henry K. Sherrill, as quoted in the Transcript,Boston, Massachusetts]

We turn from the simplicity of the Judean background to the complicated life of the present day and we ask ourselves, What has the gospel of Jesus Christ to say to us under such different in than those he faced? Is there anything practical in his teaching which can be applied amid the present difficulties and perplexities? . . .

"Strait is the gate, and the is the way, which leadeth unto life." He demanded singleness of purpose. He emphasized the absolute necessity of self-discipline. I realize that this is an unpopular note to strike. But we recognize the truth in every walk of life. The athlete, the musician, the person of achievement in every field has been able to attain only through the way of self-control, . . . of wise choices. So it is in the spiritual realm and moral realm. The Christian must run the straight race.
