A contributor in your "Public Pulse" department suggested a few days ago that a certain man must be a "perfect Christian Science disciple" because he advocated before a senatorial committee the theory that the cause of the present depression is a lack of confidence.

One does not need to be a "perfect Christian Science disciple" to think that. Many who are not students of Christian Science have very much the same view as does this man. Many who look beneath the surface of things in search of cause trace the present conditions of lack and unemployment to fear, lack of confidence.

But Christian Science really goes much farther than merely to inspire the assertion that there is no depression, as the contributor would have your readers believe. It declares a basic law enacted by the great Lawgiver that completely governs and supplies God's spiritual creation. It is because this law has been lost sight of in the maze of human opinions and statutes that men see lack in place of plenty and experience fear instead of confidence. Jesus knew of that law and its benign effects in human affairs when he admonished his immediate and future followers, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." If human beings, now suffering hunger and lack, the effects of fear, would apply God's perfect law, instead of depending upon human schemes and enactments, they would be conforming to forces of spiritual order that would restore confidence and ultimately end the depression.
