A speaker at the recent Convocation is reported as saying that Christian Science does "harm to the soul because it is narrowing." In one sense Christian Science is narrow, for it follows the teachings of Christ Jesus, who taught the straight and narrow way, but it has not been apparent that this way is harmful "to the soul." It is broad enough to include all that is good, and narrow enough to allow no room for evil.

The speaker also complains that Christian Science recognizes that "nothing but God has any effect." In acknowledging God as the only power, Christian Science is again in accord with the Scriptural teaching in the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

The tree is known by its fruit. The acceptance and practice of these teachings has, in some degree, made thousands of persons better physically, morally, and spiritually, and has given them access to purer realms of thought. In the words of Peter, "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue."
