"Beneath the shadow"*

"Beneath the shadow of His mighty wing"!
So spake His servant, while she sought to bring
The healing presence, bidding those who rove
To the sweet comfort of His arms of love.

"Beneath the shadow"! Burning suns may pour
Their maddening heat throughout the noonday hour;
Out in the open, mortal strife may scream,
Piercing the seeming stillness of earth's dream,
But in the quiet shelter and the shade,
"Beneath the shadow"! none need be afraid.

"His mighty wing"! No meager, scant caress—
widespread far-reaching, harm-proof, big to bless!
Comfort in anguish, hope for all forlorn,
Dismissing mortal fears that wake with morn.
Ah! Gone each weight of woe when we can sing;
"Beneath the shadow of His mighty wing"!
