During sixteen years of grateful appreciation for Christian Science...
During sixteen years of grateful appreciation for Christian Science I have personally witnessed the power of Truth through Christian Science in the healing of broken bones, broken hearts, broken homes, and broken businesses.
Of particular interest to the newcomer in Christian Science is the fact that the ever-presence of good makes it available for instantaneous use. Therefore of the innumerable healings that I have been privileged to know of among my own family and friends, many were instantaneous, and among them is the following. During the world war, I applied quite early for enlistment in several branches of the military and naval service but was rejected each time because of flat feet, or fallen arches. Even the draft board later refused to pass for military service a case of fallen or broken arches as supposedly hopeless as mine. For many years I had become accustomed to the wearing of heavy steel arches in my shoes and they became as much a part of my wearing apparel as the shoes themselves. One day while walking I became aware for the first time that Christian Science should be applied to this condition. It had never occurred to me previously that my understanding of the truth could change my thought about my feet. I had been standing on the steel arches for years. During the next few minutes I decided to use no other support than my understanding of Christian Science. I was impelled to return to my hotel and definitely decided to dispense with the steel arches. This decision made, I took the arches from my shoes and to my surprise found the heavy steel arches broken in half as though they had been smashed apart by some heavy blade. That morning they had been whole. The next day I again presented myself for enlistment and my former exemption cause, broken arches, was no longer in existence. I was passed with an excellent standard for service in the navy and have never since had trouble with my feet nor have I ever been tempted to use false arch supports.
My only support for all these years has been my understanding of Christian Science, which has frequently been steadied by the glorious inspirational help of Christian Science practitioners, for whom my gratitude will never end. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for class instruction.
