The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (The Mother Church).
Lecturer: Paul Stark Seeley; introduced by Miss Lucia C. Coulson, who said:—
It is a joy to welcome you this evening on behalf of The Mother Church to a lecture on Christian Science entitled, "Christian Science: The Law of Divine Provision." There is an old counsel which has too often been regarded as a pious sentiment rather than a practical, inevitable law, which is its nature. I refer to the words of the Nazarene, "Give, and it shall be given unto you." Why is this law? Because God is ceaselessly employed in giving; and man, God's reflection, is therefore ceaselessly employed in giving what God gives to man. What is it that God is forever giving? Christian Science teaches us that God is Mind, and so He is always giving ideas or thoughts to His children. Once again, then, man, God's reflection, is always giving out right thoughts, true ideas; and as man gives, it is given unto him again. That is the real employment of every man. It never comes to an end, and it is richly remunerated. The subject of our lecture this evening is divine provision; and as you listen to it, you will gain a better understanding of the practical and productive nature of Christian Science and its laws.
