Self-Completeness

How often are men and women tempted to feel lonely; to think of themselves as neglected and forsaken; to believe in incompleteness! And when they feel, think, or believe in this way, then comes despondency; and with it joylessness and ingratitude. The false sense of incompleteness, with its attendant loneliness, is encountered more or less by everyone; and it must be overcome by divine Science if one would gain that peace of mind which it is the right of all to possess.

Human beings, uninstructed in Christian Science, regard themselves as isolated units; and that is the root of the trouble. They do not know that man's existence is entirely dependent on God, the one infinite Mind or Spirit. They believe, rather, that man's existence is dependent on matter and subject to material law. Consequently, they think that since matter is changeable and transient, so must be their lives. They have little or no sense of security; they believe that they cannot commune with the divine; they lack faith in the goodness of God.

But what are the spiritual facts as Christian Science reveals them? First, man is never separate from God. The reason for this is plain. God is Spirit, Mind, and man is Mind's idea; and it is impossible for Mind's idea to be separate from Mind itself. Here, then, is an absolutely incontrovertible spiritual fact. And as it is understood it is seen that as God is complete, so must His idea be, His idea man, who is His reflection. In other words, we perceive the self-completeness of man as the image of God. This true sense of self-completeness will never be gained while matter is regarded as real and our lives as dependent upon it. It will come only as we understand that Spirit, Mind, is our Life. Mrs. Eddy says on page 264 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other consciousness."
