Herald-News

Some time ago an article appeared in the Herald-News purporting to quote a minister of the gospel to the effect that Christian Scientists are like modernists, socialists, and other persons of more or less questionable character, all of whom were classified as "enemies of Christ."

Such a misstatement concerning the regard in which Christ is held by Christian Scientists can only be attributed to a misunderstanding of the teachings and practice of Christian Science. Therefore, kindly allow me space in your valued paper to say that Christian Science includes in its teachings love for God and Christ, that it is a Christian religion founded solely upon Scriptural authority—upon the teachings of Christ Jesus—and that it is established upon the rock of Christ, Truth. Jesus declared in Matthew, "And upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 238), "He who leaves all for Christ forsakes popularity and gains Christianity." Is it not unjust that the adherents of this religion, which is established upon the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," and who leave all for Christ, should be considered "enemies of Christ"?
