In the winter of 1926 I was at home alone in the country...

In the winter of 1926 I was at home alone in the country when I had an attack of influenza and pleurisy. I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help, which was lovingly given. When my family came home from business I had an intense fever and could not talk. Although not Christian Scientists, they asked if I had called a practitioner, and I wrote on a paper that I had.

For three days I had fever and could not swallow, and when I coughed I would almost strangle. Communication on the telephone was disconnected, and we could not reach the practitioner. It seemed as if we were about to be visited by "the last enemy" when a "still small voice" said, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Then the mail came with a letter from the practitioner which read, "We all have so much to be thankful for to our all-good God, who never leaves us nor forsakes us, but is always here to help and save." And from page 3 of "Pulpit and Press" Mrs. Eddy's words were quoted: "Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love." I was healed; and my family, seeing and knowing of this healing, united with a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I am indeed grateful.
