Almighty God,Thine altars are so near!This very mornHow quietlyMercy defeated scorn.And yesterdayA dusty shopSaw Love send fear away!So close thine altars are,Those by our sideknew not the thoughtsWith which we bound and tiedSelf with its pride;Nor how we, running, hidBeneath Thy wing;Nor could they hearThe angels entering.Almighty God,Thine altars are so near!
