Gratitude

"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" sang the Psalmist; and those who have in the least experienced the healing presence and power of the Christ, Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, rejoice and praise the Giver of all good, in both their thoughts and their daily deeds.

"'This in deeds we serve the Master," proclaims a line in a beloved hymn; and true service is expressed in forgetfulness of self. In Christian Science we learn that God, who is ever present divine Mind, is continuously expressing Himself through His ideas. Man is God's highest idea or representative, and includes all right ideas. The understanding and demonstration of this fact meets our every need, everywhere, in constantly unfolding ideas of patience, courage, and purity, which increase true self-denial and the desire for growth in grace, in the way of His appointing.

Our joy is in proportion to our gratitude; and our gratitude and joy are the direct fruits of an understanding of God, reflecting in unselfed love for our fellow-men. Spiritual gratitude can remove mountains of doubt. As pioneers persevered in clearing away bush and bowlder in order to make farms and build roads, so can we take up the work of exterminating the roots of selfishness and the debris of pride and discontent. Truth is heard as a "still small voice." Silently to acknowledge our blessings reveals many unrecognized and uncounted manifestations of God's goodness and protection. Opportunity is provided at the Wednesday evening meetings to share with others our testimonies of healing through Christian Science. Freely giving of our realization of good increases our receptivity of the truth.
