Church Stretton Advertiser

In your issue of March 30 an item appears in the "Round the Town" columns which might very easily mislead your readers as to the true nature of Christian Science. I should, therefore, be grateful if you will insert this brief explanation, and doubtless you will be glad to do so.

A little girl is supposed to have said to her mother, when the latter complained of pain, "If you believe in Christian Science you must not think about it [the pain], and then you will not know you have the pain."

Christian Science, being in accordance with Scriptural teaching, enables its students to gain the right apprehension of God, divine Love, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Nowhere in Mary Baker Eddy's teachings will be found advice to ignore discordant conditions blindly; rather do her writings teem with admonitions to replace erroneous thinking, the product of the carnal mind, with perfect, harmonious divine thoughts, which emanate only from Mind, God. Paul said, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," and, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." Christian Science is diametrically opposite to all systems which involve the usage of the human or carnal mind, and Christian Scientists are grateful that they are proving through demonstration, in increasing measure, that all discord in human experience can be destroyed through the understanding of God and the perfection of man, as His image and likeness.
