Although many years ago I accepted Christian Science as the truth, and resorted to it for healing when anything inharmonious seemed to present itself; yet I did not study very seriously except during the time a problem seemed pressing, probably depending too much upon the loving work of a relative who gladly helped me when things seemed to go wrong.

I have had many healings, all of which were accomplished in a very short time, until about three years ago, when blood poisoning had to be overcome. This was the first time I had been ill when I could not reach some member of my family, and the first time I could remember having an ailment which manifested itself in swelling; both of which seemed to increase my fear. While I experienced no pain or suffering during that time, the healing was slow. I have often heard testimonies of gratitude for slow healings; and I can now say that I too am grateful for such an experience, as it made me study earnestly and regularly. The understanding of Christian Science gained has meant a great deal to me. Some time later, I was very happy in having an instantaneous healing of a burn. While I was focusing an adjustable table lamp the wires short-circuited and the flame shot up between my thumb and first finger. There was no sense of burning or pain. I do not remember voicing any particular denial, but just tried to know that it was unreal. I was surrounded by people and doing work which required the constant use of my hands; and as the hand was black almost to the wrist and had the appearance of charred wood, I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner for help. Before I started for home the appearance of the hand had entirely changed, and when it was cleaned there was but a faint pink mark to show that anything had happened. I had always desired an instantaneous healing and was very grateful for this, as such healings prove to us that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword."

One of the things I am most thankful for is the knowledge that there is an absolute, unchanging divine Principle, and that this eternal Principle is ever at work to adjust one's problems if one will but let it and get self out of the way.
