After I had tried about all the world had to give in the search for happiness and peace, and found neither, Christian Science was offered me by a young woman to whom I had been greatly attracted by what I thought an unusually fine and sweet character, which I later found to be her beautiful reflection of Truth. This Truth, as presented by Christian Science, entirely satisfied me and was eagerly accepted. Slowly and sweetly the happiness and comparative peace did come, and for a long time I rested content with this, though largely pursuing the old ways. But this attitude of accepting all and giving nothing of myself to glorify my Father and prove my dependence on Him, was not sufficient; and since I would not learn through gratitude, Love's lesson had to be learned, that, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66), "trials are proofs of God's care." These proofs came to me, and I began haltingly to try to obey the clear rules laid down for our guidance in Christian Science. Many times I was self-willed and rebellious and forgot that "Thy will be done" meant all the time, and not merely when it pleased my human self. This self-will was always punished, but each time I have found the punishment Love's blessing and its command to leave some weight behind and climb higher.

I had no thought of physical healing when I began the study of Christian Science, but almost the first result was the overcoming in less than a week of an intestinal complaint of fourteen years' duration, for which there seemed no relief. Severe and frequent attacks of indigestion, and almost unceasing backache and dull pains in the head, also disappeared; burns, crushed fingernails, colds, grippe, rheumatic pains, all have been healed; supply has been demonstrated; fear and sensitiveness are being lessened; standards and ambitions are changing and being lifted, and love and gratitude are becoming my dearest companions. In fact, there is nothing in my life that is real or worth while that Christian Science has not brought there, and old things are passing away.

The Reading Rooms and the free literature were lights in the darkness when I first began to study, and I have been so happy to serve on committees which have this work in charge.
