"Go forward"
In Exodus we read of the escape of the Israelites from bondage to the Egyptians. Throughout this narrative we are told of the leading and sustaining influence of divine Mind. Confronted with the seemingly overwhelming obstacle of the Red Sea, and closely pursued by Pharaoh's armies, the children of Israel cried for deliverance; and we read that the Lord said unto Moses, "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward." Truth provided the way and the seeming obstacle was overcome; for the children of Israel went "on dry ground through the midst of the sea."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 454) our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." It was clearly the leading and guiding influence of God that carried the Israelites through their experience and enabled them to reach the other side in safety. And it is through the inspiration and guidance which we gain from the study and application of Christian Science that we are enabled to overcome sickness, poverty, inharmony, fear, pride, or any other discordant condition, and to succeed with rejoicing.
We know that where there is a body of water, there is a depression. Now the Israelites passed through a depression in crossing the Red Sea. Was not this typical of their mental state of depression? Hemmed on either side by a wall of water, closely pursued by the armies of Pharaoh, their only course lay in going forward. They did not stop in this depression, wondering what lay beyond, or speculate as to the problems which might confront them later. They followed the leading of Love and obeyed the divine command to "go forward." Thus they reached the other side, ready to take the next step in demonstrating obedience.
