[Written for the Sentinel]

Reflection

Reflected in the waters still,
Behold the encircling landscape's face;
The woodland trees, the verdant hill,
In perfect order, beauty, grace!

Reflected in the quiet thought,
Behold the Father's likeness fair;
Encircling Mind's ideas wrought
In grandeur, order, beauty, there!

As storm-tossed water cannot show
Reflection, till its strife doth cease;
So sin-tossed thought must quiet grow,
To image forth Mind's power and peace.

Be still then, troubled heart, and know
That God is Life, Love, Truth divine,
Above, around thee, and below;
His likeness claim forever thine.
