Practical Faith

Jesus had enduring and practical faith in God, and his works gave evidence of its value. He said to his disciples, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Think of the confidence our Saviour had in one's ability to reflect divine power when one has full faith in God! For to possess and to embody in one's thoughts and acts this quality of faith is to become conscious of spiritual man's dominion over the beliefs of materiality. Such absolute reliance on God soars far above and beyond mere human belief; and it is anchored in a demonstrable understanding of God and of man's relation to Him.

Christian Science is rendering to mankind a service of incalculable value by revealing that Christianity is scientific and practicable, instead of formal and theoretical, and by dispelling old concepts of God. In this revelation of Truth we learn to know God aright, and to apprehend His all-embracing presence and His power to help us out of every trouble. Through progressive steps we gain an understanding of God's nature and of what constitutes reality, so that we may advance from sense to Soul, from matter to Spirit, and realize that God is the only Life, Mind, the source of health, strength, supply—in fact, that God is All-in-all, as the Scriptures affirm. To know that God sends to His children only good—never discord or suffering—is a great step toward destroying fear, which obviously is the antipode of true faith.

God can express nothing unlike His perfect nature; and the understanding of this fact naturally inspires love for God and trust in His power to direct, sustain, and protect us in all ways. Many who formerly regarded faith as folly now rely wholly upon God to aid them in solving their problems; and they have been led to do this, not through blind belief, but by a practical, provable knowledge of God and of man as His reflection, or image and likeness, as set forth in Christian Science.
