Among the Churches

Current Notes

Los Angeles, California (Sixteenth Church, Eagle Rock).—Sixteenth Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles (Eagle Rock), which has now been opened, is of more than passing interest, not only as a building of unusual architectural character, but also as illustrating a type well suited to the congregations of small communities throughout the southwest. Metal sash was utilized, resulting in a pleasing contrast to the ruggedness of the thick masonry walls. These masonry walls are painted white both inside and out, and, with the burnt clay red tile roof and low broad proportions of the building, conform to the architectural traditions developed in all countries with a climate similar to that of southern California. Particular attention was given the landscaping to carry out the general scheme of simplicity. Across the main front is provided a broad, spacious porch that leads directly into the foyer, which in turn gives access to the main auditorium. The auditorium has a seating capacity of about seven hundred and fifty. This auditorium consists of a central room with a large wing on either side. These wings are separated from the auditorium by a series of arches, which are an important architectural note in the aesthetic value of the interior.—Advertiser.
