It would be difficult to express in words the gratitude I...

It would be difficult to express in words the gratitude I feel for having been led, on the first day of January, 1914, to make what proved to be the best New Year resolution I had ever made, namely, to read each day of the year some portion of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This resolution was made because of benefits a dear friend claimed to have received from the study of this book. The resolution was kept, not only for that year, but for all the following years. I soon found Science and Health contained the truth about God, and about man as His reflection, for which I had long been seeking; for although I had been raised by loving Christian parents and closely allied with church activities, there were always many questions arising in my mind for which I could find no satisfactory answer, but which, one by one, are now being solved as I study the Bible with the aid of this "key."

About the middle of February, 1914, I began attending the Christian Science church services, and in March of that year took my last dose of medicine, although previous to that time there were certain drugs without which I had thought it almost impossible to exist, particularly one which I kept always at hand day and night to be used for frequent and severe attacks of acute indigestion, to which I had been subject since a child. This condition was healed after a few months' reading of the textbook and taking a radical stand for the truth by disposing of all medicines. The physical healings have been many; but even greater than these was the healing of sorrow when we received word that our only son, who had gone out to serve his country, would not return to us here ; but after one hour with a dear Christian Science practitioner, she made me see so clearly that he had simply gone to serve God in a larger and better field of service, and that he and I were still living and loving and growing together, that I was not only greatly comforted myself, but was able to give much needed comfort to other members of the family who did not have this blessed truth.

Every hour of the day I feel like praising God for having revealed to one of His children, Mrs. Eddy, such a clear understanding of His omnipotence and omnipresence, that she was enabled to give to the world a demonstrable truth that enables all who will study and apply her teachings to prove for themselves that divine Love does heal sorrow, sickness, and sin. I want to join the ever increasing army all over the world who are expressing gratitude for all the activities of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, which have been so wisely provided by our revered Leader, for our guidance and protection, particularly for the literature, which is indeed proving to be daily strength for or daily needs.
