When Christian Science was first presented to me by a...
When Christian Science was first presented to me by a friend about eighteen years ago, I was told of its beautiful teachings and healings. I was a very busy woman. However, in a short time an opportunity came for more time to read, and I found myself reading the Christian Science periodicals and helping my friend with the Lesson-Sermons, at first just to please her; but soon I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and began the study in earnest. I could see its healing and regenerating influence from the first, and longed for more understanding. I soon found that I was proving by demonstration what I had learned. Headaches, which had been growing worse, with more frequent attacks, were relieved and became less frequent, until they were entirely overcome. During the last few years, if there has been a suggestion of headache, it has never developed, for it has had no reception in my consciousness. I think the final overcoming came about through seeing that headaches were only a suggestion of so-called mortal mind, and that I could decide whether to experience them or not.
Another healing was from terrible suffering of several years' standing, which came periodically. Gradually, in a little over a year, the suffering was overcome through my study. Each year has shown progress in moral and spiritual regeneration; false beliefs and false laws have been denied and broken down. I am striving more and more to separate error from man, and to see him as God creates him. Every day brings many proofs of God's care and protection and guidance.
In the last year I was beautifully sustained while passing through a trying experience at the passing on of a loved one. By looking beyond the material sense of life in matter to the spiritual understanding of Life as divine Mind, I gained comfort and a fuller reliance on God's many promises.
