Devout Christian parents had brought up their little...
Devout Christian parents had brought up their little family, of which I was a member, to the best of their understanding in a good old orthodox church; and true to their example I followed in their honorable footsteps. After my marriage trouble of a serious nature attacked one of my children Prayers and supplications to the God whom I worshiped brought no response, and I grew rebellious. It seemed that God had afflicted me—His faithful worshiper—with trouble and sorrow greater than I could bear; and I shed many scalding tears.
Seeing my great need, a friend told me of what Christian Science had done for her and of the Reading Room. The next day, to please my friend I went there and borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and began to read it. It brought such illumination to my thought that I forgot all about the weak eyes I had suffered from all my life; and I read the book from morning till night—all the time I had to spare; and after a few days I discovered that I had been completely healed of a condition that physicians had declared incurable. I do not know when this healing came; good just flowed into my consciousness, filling me with gladness, and error had to give way.
One healing that has come into my experience is love for the Manual of The Mother Church. I loved Science and Health from the first; but there was nothing in the Church Manual that had any attraction for my selfish, arbitrary nature. Very gradually I began to see good in the Manual; as time went on and self-will diminished, I saw more good in it, till now I love the Church Manual with all my heart, and I think my greatest desire is to be obedient to its every direction. Class instruction has proved to be one of my greatest blessings. It has inspired me with love for the Bible, which grows into understanding day by day: it has given me a sense of security with which I have nothing to compare. The Association meeting each year renews this security that "my redeemer liveth." I am thankful for my loyal teacher.
