Some years ago, in a Christian Science church of which I was a member there arose a problem. I took a stand in this problem—not with love, but with hatred and resentment in my thought. About this time my son's arm was twisted in two at the elbow. A surgeon was immediately called; and after a close examination he said: "I can do nothing for your boy. If you have a God, now is the time for you to call upon Him; for none but God Almighty can keep him from having a stiff arm." A Christian Science practitioner was immediately put on the case, but the boy cried constantly, until I told him I intended to call a doctor to relieve his pain; but he protested, saying that he had no pain, but the thought of having a stiff arm for life was more than he could bear. In this hour of darkness the "still small voice" said to me, You must love those you hate! This was the awakening. Then came a metaphysical article in The Christian Science Monitor, seemingly written for me. I then put out the hatred and resentment from my consciousness, and filled it with thoughts of love. My son was in school again in a week, and in three weeks it was impossible to tell which arm had been broken. He is now a good violinist. I am grateful for this truth which enables us to recognize error and put it out.
