I am grateful to Christian Science for many physical healings, but I should like especially to refer to the healing of a skin trouble that appeared on my face and caused me considerable discomfort.
Before I knew anything about Christian Science I tried many so-called remedies, and underwent a course of inoculation without deriving any benefit. When I began the study of Christian Science, my health, which had always been poor, began to improve; but this particular trouble was not overcome. I had much loving help from several practitioners during many years, but it seemed that in this instance I myself must make the demonstration.
A few years ago the trouble became very much aggravated, and one morning I was feeling extremely discouraged and disappointed. For some weeks previously I had been studying the chapter called "Prayer" in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and it seemed to me there must be something lacking in my own prayers. The words of James quoted on page 10, beginning, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss," came clearly to my thought, and I longed at that moment not so much for my healing, as for the right, acceptable prayer to God. My answer came with that longing in the words of our Leader's hymn (Poems, p. 13):
