In a recent issue there appeared a report of an address by a doctor on "Bodily Health through Spiritual Means." While the speaker's remarks on Christian Science were kind and generous, and in some respects true, they were nevertheless misleading. Since Christian Science is based solely on the Bible, and particularly on the words and works of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, Christian Scientists accept the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures as taught and demonstrated by him, and endeavor to follow his commands. They do not consider it "dangerous" to pursue this course. The Bible contains numerous promises that God will heal all our diseases, and it plainly declares that Jesus manifested the will of his Father when he taught and demonstrated man's God-given dominion over sickness, suffering, sin, and death. Jesus' attitude toward the sinning and suffering was that of great compassion; but he evidently regarded sin, disease, and death as illegitimate, for he spent much of his time in destroying them. He said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"—free from all that is opposed to Truth or God. On page 22 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "Waking to Christ's demand, mortals experience suffering. This causes them, even as drowning men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and through Christ's precious love these efforts are crowned with success."
