Fidelity, Faithfulness, and Obedience

Fidelity to duty and faithfulness to all obligations are factors of success in all our undertakings, for it is only through fidelity to duty and faithfulness to the obligations which devolve upon us as seekers after Truth that we gain spiritual enlightenment, the goal we so greatly desire. Along with fidelity and faithfulness goes their handmaiden, obedience; and when all three characterize our efforts to establish ourselves upon the basis of divine Principle, our cup of joy will be full; life will then be both rich and sweet.

In setting forth the spiritual might with which he was armed, Paul described the needful process for establishing this authority as "casting down imaginations ... and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." Obedience to Christ was a step necessary to spiritual progress. Mortal mind, so called, is by nature perverse; it balks at what it conceives to be restraint, denies divine authority, and goes on its way until its false beliefs are dissipated and destroyed through the operation of spiritual truth.

Christian Scientists have great reason to rejoice over the blessings which are made available through the teachings of Christian Science, and they frequently voice the gratitude they feel toward its Discoverer and Founder. They know that through her spiritualized thought came the priceless message which is healing and Christianizing mankind. An important form which this gratitude to our Leader takes is strict obedience to her instructions and admonitions.
