With grateful heart I wish to testify to my healing through Science. Twice I had the grippe in such a light form that I overcame the trouble myself without help. Some time later severe pains in the abdomen set in, and continued for so many weeks that I decided to ask a Christian Science practitioner for help. The pains soon disappeared, but my body was greatly swollen and I suspected there was a growth. Should I go to a doctor? No, I did not want to do that; but over and over again came the thought, Perhaps he can help you—but then again I faced the fear of an operation.

It is very easy to understand that in this condition—wavering between Truth and error—I suffered greatly mentally. This increased to such an extent that I could no longer grasp a clear thought even when reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Then the specter of heredity tried to present itself, for some of my forefathers had died of dropsy. In this condition I was advised by the practitioner to change to another practitioner; and this I did. Soon I was more peaceful again, my body no longer causing me such great discomfort. On the other hand, different acute illnesses set in which weakened me greatly.

Then a physician was called. After a few visits he stated with certainty that I had water in my body and for this reason must be tapped. In this extremity I had to choose between Truth and medicine. I decided in favor of Truth. The practitioner helped me patiently and lovingly, and as a result my physical condition improved in a short time. But above all, I was so strengthened and uplifted mentally that I could declare to the physician with absolute security that I no longer wished to be tapped. On his raising various objections I consented to an examination, the result of which was that the physician declared it was no longer necessary for this to be done. I was healed! I left my bed, to which I had been confined continuously. After a whole year of suffering I could then do my work again joyfully, for which I give praise and thanks to God. I also thank the dear practitioner with all my heart, especially for her helpful explanations, which gave me a right understanding of Christian Science.
