As Mrs. Eddy Intended

Mrs. Eddy's statement in the Manual, Article XXIII, Section 6, is very interesting to study relative to the perpetual functioning of the Manual of The Mother Church. It is a definite statement that upon the relinquishment by the Pastor Emeritus, Mrs. Eddy, of her position, each branch church should continue "its present form of government;" and the inference necessarily follows that The Mother Church Manual must continue to function, for it expressly directs that upon such relinquishment branch churches shall continue their present form of government, not without, but in line with, The Mother Church Manual.

It seems plain, then, that Mrs. Eddy's intention must have been substantially this: that when she vacated her official position, or passed on, the By-laws of her church should continue to function, no By-law becoming invalid because her approval or consent was no longer obtainable by The Christian Science Board of Directors.

We need no new Leader, nor new organization, but we do need now, as we have needed in the past, and shall need in the future, assiduously to strive to grow in grace.
