In the hope of bringing encouragement to those struggling...
In the hope of bringing encouragement to those struggling with obstinate disease, I send this testimony of the power of Christian Science Mind-healing.
For years I suffered with my head. When I was three or four years old, the trouble began with spells of dizziness. This phase passed off, leaving a mild form of headache after fatigue or excitement, which increased in violence and frequency as I grew older, keeping me in bed in a darkened room two or three days at a time, sometimes as often as once a week. I was placed under the care of eminent physicians in this city, receiving allopathic, homeopathic, and, later, electric treatment. I also submitted to dry cupping on the temples by a celebrated oculist to relieve congestion. By medical advice I from school for two years. These efforts failed to cure me, or even to alleviate the suffering definitely. When I was about eighteen years of age, my mother took me to a specialist in New York, who said the trouble in my head came from a spinal disease. He advised a system of rest and cure, and said I should not, on any account, sit at the piano more than fifteen minutes at a time.
About two years later, my mother—ever my companion, sympathizer, and friend, who filled the place of both parents—passed away. Financial losses followed, and I found myself alone in a sea of sorrow and doubt, drifting towards atheism. At this period, the physicians frankly acknowledged they could do nothing except to administer chloral or hypodermics of morphine when the severe attacks in my head came on.
