[Written for the Sentinel]

The Ageless Christ

Eyes of the blind, look up and see!
The glory of God has shined for thee!
Out of the dark has a rainbow sprung;
Banners of hope have the angels flung,
O'er menacing clouds that scatter and flee
Before the fire of a single star
That burns serene on horizons afar.
Eyes of the blind, look up and see

Ears of the deaf, awake and hear!
The clarion call of Truth sounds clear!
Tongue of the flame from the bush that burned,
Voice from the cloud which the priestcraft spurned,
Proclaiming again for mortals to hear:
My son beloved, who pleaseth me,
He speaks in healing wherever he be.
Ears of the deaf, awake and hear!

Tongue of the dumb, unloosed be!
Ho, lift up thy voice; for man is free!
Fetters are loosed—and no foes affright!
God, good, is Love, and His love is might—
The power that breaketh bondage for thee!
Beneath the fusion of Love's bright star
Shall melt and crumble each prisoner's bar.
Tongue of the dumb, unloosed be!
