Divine Dominion

The religion founded by the followers of Christ Jesus to perpetuate the Master's words and works is based upon the fundamental fact of God's omnipotence and omnipresence. Christ Jesus gave no authority to the supposititious opposites to God, which then, as now, continuously present their clamorous claims to recognition. He proved the all-power of God equal to the destruction of these false presentments, thereby establishing God's dominion over everything unlike good.

Christian Science likewise firmly protests the all-power and all-presence of God and the consequent unreality of every claim to power and presence having some other source and origin than the divine. Christian Science proves its ground by its works, whereby reality becomes established as demonstrable Truth. Following the manner of the Master, Christian Scientists apply their understanding of divine power to the destruction of false beliefs which present themselves as disease and discords of divers forms, thus annulling the so-called laws of matter and proving Mind's control of man. "Mind's government of the body must supersede the so-called laws of matter," writes Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 182); and she adds: "Obedience to material law prevents full obedience to spiritual law,—the law which overcomes material conditions and puts matter under the feet of Mind."

The extent of the dominion which we are able to demonstrate will be in exact proportion to our obedience to divine law. Mortals' obedience to so-called material law has brought mankind its entire weight of burden and misery, from which it seeks release. We obey material law when we grant reality to the claims of matter, whatever their type or form. We disannul and destroy the claims of material law when we deny its claims and affirm with understanding the dominion of divine law. The process is not difficult. That we adopt it is of great importance; for our attitude on this subject determines for us the course of life, its meaning, purpose, and success.
